Local Rules & Course Etiquette - Birley Course

Out of bounds - Rule 27 - 1
In or beyond any boundary ditch, fence or wall.
Beyond the white marker posts: left of the 1st & 2nd fairway, behind the 1st and 2nd greens, behind the
9th green, around the putting green, right of the 13th fairway and right of the 15th fairway.
Beyond the white marker posts to the left of the 13th fairway, only when playing the 13th hole.

Obstructions
Any fence, post, wall or electricity pylon is classed as "integral" and must be played as lies.

Exceptions
Direction marking posts, winter tee mats and bell posts. Relief may be taken under Rule 24-2.
Any artificial path or roadway. Relief may be taken under Rule 24-2.
Fixed sprinkler heads and grate covers. Relief may be taken under Rule 24-2.
150 yard distance markers Rule 24-2.

Stones in bunkers are moveable obstructions.

Protection of Young Trees
Young trees are marked with either a stake or a ring round the trunk. If a protected tree interferes with
a players swing or stance, relief can be obtained under Rule 24-2b.

Overhead Power Lines

If a ball strikes overhead power lines, the player must disregard that shot, abandon the ball, and play
another ball from as near as possible to the original position. Rule 20-5.

Lateral Water Hazards

These areas are marked with red posts. Rule 26-1c.

Ground Under Repair
All areas marked as "GUR" are prohibited play and relief must be taken. Rule 25-1.

Penalty for Breach of Local Rules
Match play - Loss of Hole.
Stroke Play - Two Strokes.
