Sheffield golf courses bucking the national trend.
High quality golf courses operated by Sheffield International Venues (SIV) are driving membership figures across the city.
The number of members at Sheffield International Venues (SIV) managed courses in the city, which include Beauchief, Tinsley Park and Birley Wood, have risen in the last year and are currently at 1569 for this season.
This year alone 460 golf clubs have made a loss, according to national statistics from Plimsoll Industry Analysis: Golf Courses & Clubs - a new market report into company performance in the market. Approximatley 285 of these are making a loss for the second and even third year running.
Andy Carnall, SIV's golf manager, said: "We are continuing to see a rise in our Golfit membership scheme, meaning that we are bucking the national trend during these difficult economic times.
"With many golf clubs struggling and seeing a declining number of members, our recent success is testament to the fact that we provide excellent value for money for people of all ages and abilities.
"The courses also operate on a pay and play basis which means members of the public to play a one off round with no ties, giving them a taster of the course before committing to a membership scheme.
"With the growth we have witnessed, in particular over the last few years, we hope to continue to establish our reputation as one of the leading golf course operators in the region."
SIV Golf offers four 18 hole golf courses, a nine hole course, a pitch and putt course, and have professionals based at each course on hand to provide coaching for all ages and abilities, from adults and juniors players to beginners.
The golfit membership scheme allows members unlimited access to the three Sheffield golf courses, as well as Tapton Park in Chesterfield, and four Fitness Unlimited venues - Ponds Forge, Don Valley Stadium, Hillsborough Leisure Centre and Concord Sports Centre for £499 annually or £44.99 a month direct debit.
